Matt :

I have a question about platforms for building custom business apps. Recently Coghead and ZoHo Creator have been getting a lot of attention… so I looked into other similar applications. I heard that Interneer Intellect is in many ways the most sophisticated platofrm for building custom business applications.

On Interneer’s site (http://www.interneer.com/landingpages/GAW/rpd.asp <-- click here) it is said that Interneer Intellect "allows the average person, with or without knowledge of computer programming, to easily build fully-functional and extremely useful business applications." It says that you can use it build custom enterprise project management software solutions, document management solutions, compliance management solutions, etc.

Is it better to use a platform such as this to build these solutions yourself? Or, are you better off purchasing hard-coded solutions specializing in these specific areas?

We run a service business. Our scheduling consists of multiple techs going to multiple locations. I need a calendar that works with multiple platforms (PC, Mac & mobile), web based (multiple users need to access, only one needs to edit), printable versions of daily schedule for each tech, and enough typing room (i need to add notes for each appt). If you know of a specific program, please help! Thanks in advance!

NOW:
Company A already has a stand-alone CRM software app., which it sells to its clients: X, Y and Z.

The present CRM app. interacts with an “Interbase” DB (Borland), installed “in-house” @ each client X, Y, Z.

NEEDED:
Co. A wants to implement a web-based interface to this DB, so that its clients X, Y, Z can choose to install either:

a) the stand-alone software app, -or-
b) the web-interface to the DB

The Question(s):
———————
Q1) What is the best/simplest tech approach to generate this web interface? (language, OS?)

Q2) Could the web-interface interact with the DB, using/via the present CRM software app?
(so that the same business logic does not need to be replicated + maintained in 2 places: the present software app AND the new web-interface…).

Oh…and Co.A says the web-interface should be an OS-independent solution (not Win or Linux-specific).
Clients X, Y and Z may have Linux or Win web servers…

Any ideas/suggestions/pointers? Thanks!

Hi there

I am still fairly new to Apple Mac and it has come to the point that I need to advance my business electronically and I want to do this on my mac. So i’m seeking advice regarding database’s and similar systems etc. that will benefit me on my mac.
My needs are below:

1. Store all clients details on the computer, (this information is currently on paper enrolment forms and therefore on the computer it will require some customized fields)

2. Synchronise clients basic details with my Samsung U600 Mobile Phone

3. Synchronise clients basic details (email address min.) with my Gmail contacts online

5. Synchronise clients basic details with Apple Address Book (this would be a bonus because I am then looking from moving from web-based gmail to using apple mail)

I think that is all the info that comes to my right now
I am not sure if i posted in the right section but please, all help to find a solution would be great because im interested as-to-whether macs really are up for the job (databases etc.) !

Thanks all

I own & operate a web based business. I want to license the software to people who want to get into their own business using our software. I would like to test the waters first before dumping a lot of money into a full, blown-out licensing. Is there an easy way to get into this?

My business is currently using a series of excel spreadsheets to manage purchase orders, quoting, invoices, inventory, etc.

I have looked into open source ERPs to find a solution, but i plan on creating that in the future to replace the spreadsheets, and my current manufacturing software to be integrated together.

So for now, I was wondering if there are any open source and preferably web-based (to use in an intranet) solutions that can replace using excel for recording logs.

Thanks in advance.

Recently, for about the 100th time, I lost my little red log book. Of course it was returned, but it did raise an issue for me. Many of my FOs log their time on their PDA, phone, whatever. I happen to own a Droid, and started looking for Droid logbook software, but apparently, none exists. So I started thinking about web based subscription software, and Google finds a few of those.

Would those of you who have experience with electronic logbooks please offer some recommendations? Especially with the web-based versions.

I currently track: Date, Tail#, Type, From, To, Start (hh:mm), End (hh:mm), Total (hh:mm), SchedTime (hh:mm), Overs (mm), TLH (Takeoff, Landing, Holding). The TLH is just for proving instrument currency under Part 91, should the need ever arise—it never has.

If I am going to do this, in addition to the above, I would like the following:
1) The ability to quickly print out layover cities for tax deductions.
2) Warnings on CFI, Medical, and any other expirations
3) Web + PC Based. Right now there are none available for the Droid. I don’t want to purchase some software, then, when the next PDA/Phone comes, it out won’t handle it. If web based, then there are places in the world where it won’t work, but I can update when I get back to civilization.
4) Ability to download back to my PC so that I am not stuck if the provider goes out of business.
5) Reasonably priced.

In the past 23 years, I have, not even once, been required by anyone to produce a log book. Not even the FAA. So I am not even certain why I am keeping it. So, if it is too hard to use, or is too expensive, I’ll just stay with paper.
